Fender musicmaster bass amp tubes1/1/2023 ![]() ![]() Noel’s settings still show above the knobs if you’re looking to capture his sound, and the tolex wear or the gaffer tape in the back are hints that this little combo probably has many beautiful stories to tell.Īn absolute “must-hear” track : Supersonic It’s hard to know in which context he used that lovely silverface, but he certainly took it out on stage, probably as a complement to a more muscular amp, like his Orange OR-120. Noel Gallagher is among the players known to dig that lesser-known model, and this beautiful 1972 combo was his. Had that amp not been sold as a kit with the Musicmaster bass, and had it be named in a more consensual way, it might have become a Fender classic. Indeed, that kind of tool is perfect to get a big ample sound without crushing the room with volume. ![]() That amp could almost be seen as the ideal answer to all the guitar players who would modify their Princeton by putting a bigger speaker inside it. But in the same way that guitarists became enamoured with the evocatively named Bassman in the fifties, those same guitarists are the ones who got hip to the Musicmaster Bass, basically a low-power twelve-watt combo (featuring two 6V6 power tubes) with a twelve-inch speaker. When Fender released the Musicmaster Bass amp in 1970, they wanted to design something for bass players playing at home. Give me a call, 40.History has a funny way of repeating itself. I would consider a package sale but can't discount a whole lot, as I usually post low when I sell here Maybe if you need to we can work out a trade/cash deal if you have anything I can use. I will post a photo so you can decide for yourself. I truthfully don't know about the EVM12L in the early Boogies. I believe it is 12 watts and the speaker is an Eminence Legend, which seems to be a great speaker for great headroom. It is an all tube amp, a 12 AX7 preamp and the power tubes are as discussed. Keith: would you entertain a package sale for this amp and the EVM12L speaker/cabinet you're also selling? BTW, is the EVM12L speaker similar to the EV that came in the earlier Mesa Boogie Mk. What is the output wattage, and what is the speaker?ĭoes it have an external speaker jack to be used in conjunction with the internal speaker? ![]() There are TONS of NOS 6AQ5's floating around at inexpensive prices, so you will never have to worry about replacements.ġ930's/40's Rickenbacher/Rickenbacker 6&8 string lap steelsġ921 Weissenborn Style 2 Hilo&Schireson hollownecksġ959 Fender 400 9+2 B6 1960's Fender 800 3+3+2 1970 Emmons SD10 Cuttail (Courtesy ReSound '65)įorgive my ignorance, but is this amp a solid state pre-amp/tube power-amp configuration? The 6AQ5 has a smaller base and is a completely different tube with more clean power in most situations. PS - note the output tubes are 6AQ5's - some mistakenly think they are 6BQ5's, aka EL84's. Highly recommended - someone should jump on this. I've had a couple, one 6AQ5 and one 6V6-type (and IF I didn't have too many amps.sigh.) and they are NOT just bass amps - they make great guitar amps and have a ton of headroom for steel as a practice amp the replacement speaker will make this one even better. FWIW this is one of the great Fender "sleeper" amps - relatively unknown but incredible tone. ![]()
